What really happened was that school was cancelled for my kids the night before, we got 18″ of snow in about 24 hours and we hit the road a little late because we had to dig ourselves and a couple neighbors out before we could get going.
And a detour…..
To pick up my daughter’s new reading glasses. She had been getting headaches and had tested slightly farsighted last year and they decided that this should help…. so far so good!
We then hit the highway with a loaded trunk. 5 days of clothing for a ten day trip because we knew we would have laundry facilities available. Food from the pantry. Stuff to keep us busy on a long car ride.
And our maps. First stop: Fort Rapids Waterpark in Columbus, OH.
Last fall I shared with you a special they were running and as part of that promotion I was given a free night to check them out. We were unable to make it until now and I’m not under any obligation to even mention them again, but I want to share with you because it is part of our vacation and it was a lot of fun.
We actually decided to do the night there even though it was out of the way because we have friends that moved to Columbus shortly before Christmas last year and this was a great opportunity to get to see them.
My kids know a thing or two about waterparks. We have been to Goldrush in Rothbury, Great Wolf in Traverse City, Zehnder’s in Frankenmuth, Avalanche Bay in Boyne and a small one in Mackinaw – plus several other hotels over the years with waterslides. Fort Rapids measured up for sure! Plus, our friends kids are just 2 and 4, and it was there first time at a waterpark. All 4 kids left exhausted after being busy for hours.
The kids loved all the slides, the lazy river, the fun. Mommy loved the extras in the room that made it cheaper to stay… and the suit dryer IN the room (ours slept 8 people).
Checkout was at 11am, but we didn’t hit the road for out next stop until almost 2pm thanks to our waterpark passes being good all day and the locker rooms.
Back on the road again, we traveled through Cincinatti, OH down 75 through Kentucky and into Tennesse Saturday night. We arrived in touristy area with lots of lights at night and nestled into our stop in the mountains.
More to come 🙂
